Sirsa to Get 11 Model Junctions: Full List of Locations and Facilities Announced

Sirsa:  The district administration has finalised a plan to develop 11 model junctions in the Sirsa and Dabwali areas to improve road safety and traffic management. The project aims to reduce road accidents, ease traffic congestion, and provide safer movement for the public. Work will be carried out on national highways, major city roads, and high-traffic areas in accordance with modern road safety standards.

10 departments assigned responsibilities

Ten departments have been given specific responsibilities to complete the model junction project. These include the Public Works Department (PWD), municipal council, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), police department, transport department, power corporation, and public health department. All departments have been directed to complete their assigned work within the fixed timeline.

Sangwan Chowk and Parshuram Chowk among junctions to be developed

Under the plan, several major chowks and junctions in Sirsa will be developed as model junctions. These include Sangwan Chowk, Parshuram Chowk, and other important traffic points. Traffic management at these locations will be modernised to provide better facilities for vehicle drivers and the general public.

What facilities will be available at model junctions?

According to information from the administration, the model junctions will have several types of facilities. These include high-quality roads and strong pavement, clear lane markings and road signs, modern traffic control systems, better street lighting arrangements, dividers and safety barriers, safe crossings for pedestrians, proper rainwater drainage systems, and improvement of accident-prone black spots.

537 complaints registered on road portal

A total of 537 complaints have been registered so far on the portal being operated for resolving road-related grievances in the district. Of these, the maximum number — 345 complaints — are related to the Sirsa city area. The administration has said that most complaints have been resolved, and action on the remaining cases is being taken quickly.

Why is this project being taken up now?

The project comes at a time when road safety concerns have been rising in the district. A report from June 2026 highlighted that speed breakers and cuts on several major routes, including Dabwali Road, Barnala Road, and the mini bypass, were installed without indicators, signboards, or reflectors, creating accident risks especially at night. Local residents had pointed out that despite accidents occurring, the concerned departments had not shown seriousness. The model junction project is seen as the administration’s response to these long-pending safety issues.

Reduction in accidents expected

Experts believe that once the model junctions are built, traffic management will improve and the number of road accidents will decrease. Vehicle drivers will benefit from safer and more convenient movement. The administration’s goal is to complete all work on time and make Sirsa and Dabwali areas among the leading districts in the state in terms of road safety.
