Sirsa/Chandigarh — The District Red Cross Society, Sirsa, in collaboration with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), Mohali, organised a ‘Divyang Check-up Camp’ on Wednesday at the Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) office in Nathusari Choupata. The camp assessed persons with disabilities from various villages in the block, with 65 individuals found eligible to receive artificial limbs and assistive devices. The camp was held under the ongoing initiative by the Red Cross Society to identify and assist Divyangjans and senior citizens across all blocks in the district.

65 identified, ALIMCO team conducts checks

The camp saw the participation of SEP Dinesh Kumar Mehta, who made a special appearance at the event. A team from ALIMCO, Mohali, comprising Dr. Tushar Siwach, Dr. Utkarsh Verma, Sumit Kharb, and Lakshay Singla, conducted the medical examinations and assessments of the attendees. After the checks, the team selected 65 persons with disabilities who will now receive free assistive devices. Akshay Kumar and Vikas Kumar also provided their services alongside the ALIMCO team during the camp.

Which devices are provided, and what are the conditions?

The selected beneficiaries will receive assistive devices free of cost. The District Red Cross Society has set certain conditions for the distribution of these devices. The aids will only be given to those Divyangjans or senior citizens who have not received any assistive device from the Red Cross in the previous three years. For battery-operated tricycles, the devices are provided only after a gap of five years. The range of devices available includes motorised tricycles, wheelchairs, hearing aids, tricycles, artificial limbs, walking sticks, and crutches.

What documents are required for application?

Individuals attending the camp and wishing to receive assistive devices must carry certain documents. Divyangjans are required to bring their UDID (Unique Disability ID) card, Aadhaar card, and family identity card. Senior citizens above 60 years of age who wish to obtain hearing aids or walking sticks need to bring their Aadhaar card and family identity card.

Which villages benefited, and where is the next camp?

Persons with disabilities from several villages in the Nathusari Choupata block, including Kumharia, Kagdana, Gigorani, Shakar Mandouri, and Nathusari Kalan, participated in the camp and underwent the check-up. The District Red Cross Society, Sirsa, has also announced the schedule for the next camp. Another Divyang check-up camp will be organised on Sunday at the BDPO office in Baraguda. The society is organising these camps in every block of the district to extend assistance to persons with disabilities and senior citizens.

How is the Red Cross Society reaching Divyangjans across Sirsa?

Pawan Kumar, from the District Red Cross Society, Sirsa, stated that the society is organising these camps in every block to provide support to persons with disabilities. The camps aim to identify eligible individuals and provide them with the necessary assistive devices to improve their quality of life. The collaboration with ALIMCO, a Government of India enterprise, ensures that the devices provided are of standard quality. The initiative aligns with the central government’s Assistance to Disabled Persons (ADIP) scheme and the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY), which aim to empower Divyangjans and senior citizens
