In a shocking incident from Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, a woman was assaulted by a man in broad daylight near the Koyla Phatak crossing. According to reports, the accused first made the woman consume alcohol and then lured her into a false promise of marriage before committing the heinous crime. The man fled the scene, leaving the woman behind. A video of the crime has since gone viral on social media, drawing widespread condemnation. Details of the Incident
The incident occurred in Ujjain’s busy Koyla Phatak area, a location known for its high foot traffic. The accused, identified as Lokesh, reportedly exploited the woman by first offering her alcohol and then engaging in non-consensual acts under the pretence of marriage. Despite being in a populated area, onlookers failed to intervene, choosing instead to film the horrific incident. The video quickly spread across social media platforms, further highlighting the apathy of bystanders.
Immediate Police Action
After the video went viral, the Ujjain police acted swiftly, arresting the accused within hours. Based on the woman’s complaint, a case has been registered against Lokesh, and further legal actions are being pursued. Ujjain Central Kotwali Police Station CSP Om Prakash Mishra confirmed that the police took immediate action based on the viral video.
The police have also been scrutinized for not responding promptly to such incidents in the past, despite increasing cases of violence against women in public spaces.
Congress Condemns the Government
In response to the incident, Congress launched a scathing attack on the state government. Congress leader Jitu Patwari took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), sharing the video and accusing the government of failing to maintain law and order, especially concerning women’s safety.
