Paris Paralympics 2024: Palak Kohli Inspiring Journey, From Overcoming Bone Tumor to Qualifying for Paris Paralympics

September 1, 2024: In a remarkable display of resilience and determination, Palak Kohli, the rising star of Indian para-badminton, has qualified for the Paris Paralympics 2024. Her journey, marked by overcoming a bone tumor and adapting to a new playing category, serves as an inspiration to athletes worldwide.

Born with an underdeveloped left arm, Palak Kohli’s passion for sports was evident from a young age. Despite facing societal scepticism and personal adversities, she pursued her dream of becoming a para-badminton champion. Her unwavering spirit and hard work paid off when she qualified for both singles and women’s doubles events at the Tokyo Paralympics 2021, making her the only Indian para-badminton player to achieve this feat.

Palak Kohli’s Battle Against Bone Tumor

However, Palak’s journey was not without its challenges. In June 2022, she underwent emergency surgery for a bone tumour on her left ankle, a setback that would have deterred many athletes. But Palak refused to let this obstacle define her career. With determination and resilience, she not only recovered but also adapted to a new category in para-badminton due to her altered physical condition.

Only an athlete knows the cost of their passion, Palak said, reflecting on the challenges she faced. I was told by doctors and the highest level of surgeons that I cannot complete sport back again. But I made a way, and it’s a very happy enough proud moment for me to be back on playing the sport that I love the most.”
